Following Todd Stocks "Milling A Weissenborn Peghead" tutorial I made this
mock peghead. I'm not going to use It, so It has'nt been completed.

It's made from Poplar that I got from the local lumber yard. I'm thinking
about making the actual one out of curly maple to contrast with the Walnut
back and sides.

The picture below isn't that good.

Very stylish Mackie. The poplar dosen't look out of place to me with the walnut face either. The binding sets it off nicely. Curlie maple would look real smick.

Thanks Alan. I tried to come up with something a little different . Like you, I
used mostly hand tools. The only power tool I used was a PC router with a
pattern following bit in a 3/4" plywood table that I made to shape the
veneer and poplar. All of the angled cuts where made with a Japanese Ryoba
Saw that I recently brought. Ryoba Saws are amazing!

The poplar doesn't look too bad.

Anyone have any thoughts on using kiln dried poplar for the peghead to
contrast with walnut back and sides?

Mackie, what model  Japanese Ryoba Saw did you purchase. I need a good hand saw myself. The teneon saw I have been using is only a cheap saw and jams often.
